What Prompted Us to Launch Industry-Specific Mixers

After our first Nepali Students & Professionals Mixer, we knew we had tapped into something powerful.

The feedback was overwhelmingly positive — people loved the energy, the connections, the vibe. But there was one piece of feedback that really stuck with me.

A few tech professionals came up to me during and after the event. Casually, they mentioned how great it would be to meet more people from their own industry. That comment sparked a lightbulb moment.

It made perfect sense.

If Nepali professionals could connect with others in their specific fields, the conversations would be even more relevant. There’d be more room for mentorship, referrals, job opportunities, or just that shared sense of understanding that only comes from working in the same space.

So we decided to pilot our first industry-specific meetup, starting with the one where we had the most demand: Tech & IT.

For the venue, we chose MIT — where better to host a tech event, right?

And since people might not know what to expect from something like this, we added a panel to anchor the evening. We brought in three amazing speakers:

  • Pragya Neupane (MIT)

  • Ranjan Dahal (Wayfair)

  • Sujan Baral (AWS)

Each panelist brought a different perspective — from academia to early-career to industry veterans.

Over 50 people showed up, and the event was a hit.

That night confirmed it: this is the direction to go. After that, we’re worked to build mixers like this across every major industry — but more on that in another blog.
