Story Behind Our Monthly Nepali Professionals Mixers

If you haven’t read our article on scaling back and pausing #NSAWednesdays, I highly recommend you check that out first. Because yes — after going full speed for two months, we decided to take a step back.

And with that came a big question:
If we’re only going to do one event a month, which one do we keep?

The Backstory

For context, our old format was this:

  1. First Wednesday: Tech, IT & Startups

  2. Second Wednesday: Biotech, Lifesciences & Healthcare

  3. Third Wednesday: Finance, Accounting & Real Estate

  4. Fourth Wednesday: Nepali Professionals Mixer

Each week had a niche — which worked… until it didn’t.

As the weeks went by, we started noticing something interesting:

  • Our industry-specific mixers? They began attracting more non-Nepali attendees. At one point, it was nearly 50/50. Don’t get me wrong — it was exciting in its own way. It felt like we were building a bridge between the Nepali and broader Boston professional scene.

  • But our Nepali Professionals Mixer? That hit differently.

Multiple attendees who had come to our previous niche mixers pulled me aside and said:

“This feels so different. The energy is just… next level.”

That was enough for me to pause and reflect.

The Shift in Focus

I realized the very thing we set out to build — a vibrant community for Nepali professionals — was slowly getting diluted. Again, no hate to mixing broader audiences, but a few things stood out:

  • The vibe at all-Nepali events was just unmatched. The warmth, the ease of connection — it made everyone feel instantly at home.

  • Our niche mixers, though well-curated, started to feel like any other networking event in Boston. Great structure, sure. But where was the differentiator?

  • People enjoyed cross-industry conversations way more than we expected. Some came for tech, but left fascinated by stories from healthcare or real estate.

  • And most importantly — doing weekly events led to attendee burnout. People would come once, enjoy it, then skip the next few because they had “just gone.” It made even the best events feel routine & LESS impactful.

So... What Are We Doing Now?

Simple:
We’re keeping the one event that gave people the most value, connection, and community — the Nepali Professionals Mixer.

And we’re dialing it back to just once a month to:

  • Keep it special

  • Make it easy to plan around

  • And allow us to focus on quality over quantity

The Vision Behind It

This isn’t just another mixer.
The long-term vision?

We want every Nepali student or young professional in Boston to come to these mixers and connect with:

  • Senior professionals across different industries

  • Peers navigating similar career paths

  • Mentors and mentees they didn’t know they needed

Think of it like this:

A student meets a mid-level professional who gives them advice on landing their first job.
That mid-level professional meets a senior executive who becomes a mentor.
That executive gets to see and support the next generation of Nepali leaders.

It just makes sense. Everyone wins. And everyone leaves better connected.

This isn’t just a networking event.
