The Light Bulb Moment To NSA Boston

When I first came to Boston back in 2018, I was the only Nepali student in my grade at Bentley University. For my entire first year, I basically had no Nepali friends around me. I often found myself feeling a bit jealous of my friends from other ethnic groups — Chinese, Indian, and others — who seemed to have tight-knit communities right away.

Fast forward to November 2025, I hosted a casual backyard party for my friends and their friends — about 50 people showed up. Nothing crazy, just good times and good vibes. But the next day, I woke up with this strong urge: to host an event exclusively for Nepali students from all the different schools around Boston.

Boston has nearly 100 universities, and at each one, there are maybe fewer than 10 Nepali students. The idea was simple — what if we could bring all these students together? Give them a chance to meet, connect, and build a community beyond their small campuses.

That sparked the creation of the Nepali Student Association (NSA) Boston Instagram page. We made some promo videos and decided to run with the idea.

My cousin owns a cozy Nepali restaurant in Everett called ZUZU Momo — a perfect spot. I convinced him this was a great idea, and we booked a Sunday, 5-7 pm, to host an event for about 40 people.

We ended up with 37 attendees, and it was pretty awesome. That night, we realized we had tapped into a gap that no one else had addressed. And just like that, the journey of NSA Boston officially began.

A huge thank you to our sponsor, ZUZU Momo, and everyone who came out that day. What started as a simple idea has turned into something truly exciting — a community that’s making a real impact for the entire Nepali community across Boston.
